Abstract

Traditionally, an alkaloid, Aconiti tuber, has been relatively widely applied in herbic medicine in this country as a theraprutic of hepatonics and various chronic nerve diceased, and not only favorable conditions but toxic effects on the eye have been encountered clinically. For the elucidation of true nature of histopathological on the finer structures of the rabbit retina, an electron microscopic examination was carried out on the first, third, fhfth and seventh days after the intraperitoneal administration of aconiti tuber. The characteristic features observed in this study indicate that the inintation of destruction is prominent at the retinal outer layers, and the nerve system appears more susceptible than the glial system.
